show yourself

trapped in a room
on a Saturday night
alone again
cold without an embrace
hearing the world beckon
unable to reply
through the blackened skies
and late humid air
are you aware of my silent cry?
reach out your hand
I’ll seek it in the haze
to help pull me free
of this chained prison

Another old poem found in the trenches of my journals. It’s been fun to find these and try to figure out my headspace when I wrote them.

For this particular piece, I remember feeling like everyone else was out having fun without me. Though I don’t mind that now—usually, lol—it can be crushing as a young person.

I also get the sense that I wrote this because most of my friends were pairing off into relationships and I was still single. This was, of course, long before I realized I was asexual.

Have you ever felt like you were being left behind while everyone around you was moving on?
